Your First Day At Community Bible Church 1-What should I wear? You will find most people at our congregation dressed very informally. We truly believe in the come as you are approach. So, at any Sunday morning service you will find more jeans and tshirts than suits, ties and dresses. 2-How will I be greeted? As you enter, we hope you will be greeted by one of our ushers who will hand you a bulletin and help direct you in any way we can to help. Hopefully, again you will be greeted by some of our active members and regular attenders. Outside of that, feel comfortable to come on in and check us out without worry of being put on the spot in any way. We want you to sit back and enjoy your time with us. 3-What will worship be like? Our worship services reflect everything we have just described. It is a time to come together as a church family, praise, thank and learn about our God in a laid back informal style of worship. We have a blended style of music with most Sundays being led by a worship band that seeks to lead the congregation in both contemporary and traditional songs with guitars, drums and keyboard. Doughnuts, snacks and coffee/ beverages are available in the foyer and yes, can be brought into the sanctuary. Services are about an hour long. We take an offering up each Sunday in support of our ministry from our members, please as our guest do not feel obligated to give. Occassionally, we have communion and if you happen to come on one of those weeks feel free to participate with us, our communion table is open to all who wish to receive. The Bible and our time of teaching are at the center of our worship times. 4-What kind of Bible should I use? We do not require one translation style at our church. We believe that the best translation is the one you use, read, study and put into practice. Our pastor uses the NIV in services. 5-What about kids? Kids of all ages are welcome in our worship services. We enjoy and appreciate having them with us. We do provide for any parents/ children interested a jr. church program. Nursery program runs for the whole worship service. Kids in grades pre-k and up start in worship with us and then around the offering, can leave to go to the youth ministries programs. Grades 6th and up stay the whole time in worship. 6-What other programs do you offer? Youth Groups: 9:30 Sunday mornings, classes for all ages, as well as nursery. Wednesday 180. Youth ministry meeting at 6:30-8:00 for all ages. IGNITE. Local youth groups for ages jr. high to sr. high meeting first Sunday night of each month during the school year at 5:30. Locations vary. Adult Studies: 9:30 Sunday mornings. Adult classes. Wednesday 180. Adult Bible study beginning around 7:00 after youth worship. We offer throughout the year many other fellowship and service projects for both youth and adults, see church calendar for those happenings. 7-Other questions? See the contact us page to email one of our staff.

BELIEFS

1. The Bible We hold the entire Bible, Genesis through Revelation, in its original writings, to be without error, and we further hold that the entire Bible is verbally inspired of God, of equal authority throughout, infallible, progressive in nature, and that it must be interpreted literally, except where context demands otherwise. We recognize that modern translations of the Bible are further means to provide the peoples of the world the Word of God in their own language and acknowledge that the best translation is the one (s) that we actually study, read and seek to apply. As evidenced in the past, we believe that through the Holy Spirit and the sovereign plan of God, modern translations are used to spread the Good News (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Isaiah 40:8; 1 Corinthians 2:10-12). 2. The Godhead There is one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Timothy 2:5; Ephesians 4:4-6; Matthew 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14). 3. The Person of Christ Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and the power of God, born of the Virgin Mary, and is both fully God and fully man (Luke 1:34-35; Philippians 2:5-11; Romans 1:3-4; Colossians 1:15-19). 4. Total Depravity: Each of us by nature is dead in trespasses and sins and are, therefore, totally unable to do anything pleasing before God, except believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ died for all sins and thus sin’s debt has been paid. Therefore, what separates us from God is our lack of relationship with God, because of our sin. That relationship can be established only as we believe on and receive Jesus Christ by faith alone (Acts 4:12; Rom. 3:9-12, 23; Eph. 2:1-3). 5. Salvation – Redemption God receives and justifies (meaning just as if we never sinned) all unsaved sinners by His grace based upon the blood shed by Jesus Christ on the cross to pay the debt of sin in our lives. Complete salvation, forgiveness, and justification are given as a free gift of God by our faith in Christ and not by any work of our own (Romans 3:21-28; 5:1-11; Ephesians 2:4-10). 6. Eternal Security of All Believers All believers are eternally secure in Christ. Our salvation is not a chance; it is a sure and certain hope in Christ (Colossians3:1-4; Romans 8:1; 29-39; John 10:27-29; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 John 5:12-13). 7. The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, who convicts the world of sin and makes God’s Word known in this age of grace. The Spirit’s work of regeneration, baptizing, and indwelling accompanies the salvation experience, and all other ministries are a part of the “filling” work as seen in Ephesians 5:18 (John 16:7-13; Romans 8:26-27; 1 Cor. 2:12-13; 12:13; Eph. 1:13; 3:16-21). 8. The Church The church is the body of Christ and functions to carry out His work, ministry and mission while here on earth. Its power, commissioning and authority come from the ministry of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. By God’s grace the Apostle Paul received the revelation of the mystery that Gentiles can receive salvation through faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection. We look primarily to the Pauline epistles for guidance on church conduct, doctrine and practice (Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Ephesians 1:22-23; 3:1-11; 4:11-16). 9. Gifts The ministry gifts for the church are described in Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:1-31 and Eph. 4:1-16. We believe some of these gifts were permanent while others seem to be temporary such as gifts of: apostles, foretelling prophets, tongues, miracles and healing. Gifts are given to enable and empower the church to do the work of Christ today. (1 Cor. 1:21-24; 13:8-11). 10. The Walk of Believers By reason of Christ’s victory over sin, and His indwelling Spirit, all of the saved may and should experience deliverance from the power of sin. We deny that our sin nature is ever eradicated during this life and we also affirm that man’s free will is preserved eternally. Believers are called to follow in the footsteps of Christ (1 Peter 2:21-23; 1 Corinthians 11:1) as followers of Him. A believers walk is evidenced by growth in maturity, Christ-likeness, and the fruit of the Spirit (Ephesians 4:1-3; Gal. 5:16-25). 11. The Lord’s Supper (Communion) The communion of the Lord’s Supper is for all the members of the Body of Christ to observe until His return. It is a memorial of His body being broken, and of His blood being shed as a payment for our sins. We observe an open communion for all Christian believers (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). 12. Resurrection Jesus Christ was resurrected bodily from the dead through the power of God (Luke 24:39-43; 1 Corinthians 15:1-20; Colossians 2:12). We believe that all of humanity will have a bodily resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:21-26) with the saved being raised to everlasting glory and the unbelievers to everlasting punishment (John5:25-29; Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15). 13. Baptism We believe that all saved persons have been made members of the Body of Christ by one Spiritual baptism (1 Corinthians 12:13). By that baptism every believer is identified with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection (Colossians 2:9-13). We contend based on the overall emphasis of Scripture that water baptism is not required for salvation in God’s plan for us today (1 Corinthians 1:17). We would not discourage those seeking water baptism as long as those desiring this are at an age where they understand what they are doing and view the act as a symbolic cleansing from sin representing an outward sign of an inward faith. 14. The Rapture and Christ’s Second Coming The rapture of the Church and the Second Coming of Christ to earth will be pre-millennial (meaning before Jesus reigns during the Kingdom). Christ’s return for the believers will come first and at any moment where we will be caught up in the air with Christ without notice (1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Then He will come at the Second Coming to receive His millennial Kingdom, over which He will reign (Zech. 14:1-9; Acts 1:9-12; Rev. 19:11-16; 20:4). 15. State of the Dead Nowhere does Scripture extend the hope of salvation to the unsaved dead, but instead reveals that they will ever continue to exist in a state of conscious suffering (Mark 9:42-48; Luke 16:23-31; John 3:36; Revelation 14:9-11; 20:10, 14-15). 16. Mission and Commission The mission and commission of the church, the Body of Christ, is to proclaim the message and ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:14-21), in order to witness to the world the salvation of Christ Jesus available to all who call on Him. As Christ’s disciples we have been commissioned to be His “ambassadors”. We seek to carry out this mission through the ministry and service in our local church as well as supporting and participating in outreach to all parts of the world.
