Ascension was our church home for seven years before we moved cities and we now realize and appreciate more the church and its people. It is genuinely welcoming, non judgemental, and generous of heart. This church and Fr. Jim are the reasons I found my way back to Jesus. Our first service [10:30am] was surprising by combining the traditional service with the praise music and we quickly came to love the combination and the connection it made with us, including our 2 young girls. [I was raised Catholic and my husband, Episcopalian] The church's initial welcoming spirit with new member orientation washed away any anxiety; the newcomers dinner allowed us time to connect with everyone; and Ascension 101 connected the dots for my questions. The sermons connected with me: able to connect the bible with our current life and made me want to learn more. For the first time, I was looking forward to church, the teachings, how to apply it to my life, and feeling closer to God. I took notes in church! It was easy for my whole family to be involved with the little extra time we thought we had to give. I intentionally taught Sunday school to equip me to be able to talk to our girls about the bible stories and learn them again myself. We found life-long friends at Ascension, which makes it that much harder to go. Now trying to find a new church in our new city, we find ourselves comparing everything to Ascension and know just how special it is.
