Dear Pastor, I am your neighbor next door at 409 W. Maple St. My husband, Doug and I have lived in this neighborhood for 33 years. I know you probably don't want to hear this complaint, but here goes. I am really exhausted in my back yard when trying to garden, cut grass, have pool time, everyday normal living when surrounded by homeless people coming and going in the yard next to me that claims they have your approval to stay under the awning. If this is the case, and they do in fact have your approval, then you need to provide restroom facility and sleeping quarters in your church for them after feeding. I understand that we have a problem with homelessness in our community, but this is not the way to correct it. Daily my husband and I have to contend with men mostly, some women, urinating on our fence and on your building, defecating behind the shed or anywhere they can possibly go. This has been an ongoing problem since the approval of Exit 0 being in your building on Monday night. I was just outside in my yard gardening to find a white mail urinating on the fence while looking over the fence into my yard. Was he really urinating or something else? You tell me. It is not fair that we have to put up with this behavior. Would you like it next door to your house? I think not, that's why you live away from here. Now we expect some changes before summer on this matter, or we will be going to the mayors office next. We have suffered long enough with strange people walking though our yards, picking through the trash, using the bathroom between our buildings, and a general don't care attitude. All of us have to go to work daily to earn an income to support our families and keep up while all the homeless people party all day in our parks and ask for money. My father who is 90 lives across the street from me, is afraid most of the time because of all these incidences. He is a veteran and shouldn't have to live out his last days being afraid in his own neighborhood. The police are making daily runs in our neighborhood trying to keep drug usage and vandalism at bay. There has got to be a safer and better way to do this. Frustrated, Karen and Doug Carden (812) 288-9627, The-Springs@hotmail.com
