To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my profound disappointment and concern regarding a recent experience at your church. During a visit, the pastor made the statement that dogs do not have souls. This assertion was not only disheartening but was delivered in a manner lacking empathy and compassion. The pastor's demeanor was judgmental, and he seemed more interested in asserting his intellectual superiority rather than engaging in a respectful and open-minded dialogue.
Despite my own extensive education and qualifications, which include a Doctorate in Divinity, certification as a minister, an Associate's degree in General Psychology, several medical certifications, and current studies as a Naturopathic Doctor, the pastor dismissed my views. He boasted about his degree, implying that his understanding of souls and spirits was more valid than mine. Our discussion, which delved into the Dead Sea Scrolls, Sanskrit, and the Hebrew concept of "agape," left me feeling that the church lacked the true essence of agape love—unconditional love for all beings.
Furthermore, I observed behaviors that seemed contradictory to the principles of compassion and service. At the church's food pantry, I witnessed staff members loading their own vans with supplies while patrons, many in desperate need, were still waiting in line. This level of selfishness and disregard for those the church is meant to serve was appalling.
As someone who has visited and studied various denominations across the United States, I can say that this church stands out as one of the most judgmental and self-serving. Churches should be places of collaboration, where believers uplift and support one another, not places where individuals are degraded and their faith questioned.
Years after this encounter, I still pray for the congregation and leadership of your church. I hope they find true compassion and embrace the agape love that they profess to teach. It is my sincere hope that this feedback will be taken to heart and inspire meaningful change within your community.
Sincerely,
Jerrica Hasman DD
