This elder consistently approaches others with the intent to disprove their personal faith convictions, often in a confrontational and dismissive manner. Rather than fostering dialogue or spiritual growth, these interactions create division, discomfort, and confusion—undermining the work of the Holy Spirit, who calls us to unity, humility, and mutual respect in Christ.
Scripture reminds us: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God…” (1 Peter 5:5–6). The Spirit works through hearts that are open, not combative. When we prioritize being “right” over being loving, we risk quenching the Spirit’s movement among us.
Moreover, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:4), and “As far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all” (Romans 12:18). These verses call us to a posture of grace, not spiritual superiority.
Faith communities thrive when we build each other up—not tear each other down. I hope this elder reflects on the impact of their approach and embraces the humility Christ modeled.
