If I could keep one person from getting sucked into this church or help one member have the courage to escape, this review will be worth it to me. “Cult” is a strong word, but this church is very unhealthy. I experienced such spiritual and psychological trauma while attending that I felt like I completely lost myself as a person after several months of brain washing sermons… they honestly encourage this, becoming “nothing” and losing your personality, in order to “die to self”. My soul was crucified. I lost all joy for living. I listened to the kind of sermons that go on for literal hours and put your brain into the most cloudy confusion. So weird because I really wanted to belong and to love Jesus along with everyone. And yes, I did see miracles. As well as a lot of spiritual showiness. But I always felt like I was missing the secret key, some higher spiritual knowledge and level that everyone had but me. These people have very good intentions and really want to follow God, but the teachings are skewed and there’s a lot of exclusion. The church members basically worship the pastors, soaking up their words as if they are the Word. When I finally built up the courage to leave, it was one of the most cathartic moments of release and peace in my life. If you are attending the church and searching for answers—like I was— and researching for clues online to figure out if you are actually crazy… take it from anonymous Nashvillian, you’re not. You can leave. Get out!!
