The church began as Calvary Assembly of God in 1954, under the leadership of Brother C. E. Young. The congregation originally met in the homes of it's members in 1954 until their numbers were too great and they sought, and were granted, permission to meet in the local Hancock School Building of Rocky Mount in 1955, where they stayed until April of 1959 when construction of the current building site was completed.
