About 16 years ago I ran into a friend that I had known from my husband’s office. She asked where we were living now and when I told her the Great Neck area, she said, “Oh, my church is on Great Neck Road.” Since I knew she lived in Great Bridge, I expressed surprise that she would drive so far to go to church every Sunday. She explained that it was worth the trip and told me a few things that caught my attention. Her Sunday school class was studying a book that I was reading at the time, Conversations With God, so I decided to participate in the class the following Sunday. I loved the sharing of thoughts, ideas, philosophies and spiritual experiences that were freely expressed in the class. I continued to go to the Sunday school class for a number of years and probably 20 books studies before I set foot in the sanctuary. But, once I did, I was hooked!
Virginia Beach Christian Church is a place where I feel comfortable asking about and even questioning standard biblical interpretation. No longer do I feel as though I am spoon fed what someone else thinks I should believe. There is an atmosphere of love, acceptance, encouragement, and support when needed. The church demonstrates this by the impact they have in the community. We have a Food Pantry that is open 4 days a week and serves 400-500 individuals each month. We provide a meeting place for a number of support groups and community activities every week. We actively participate in Habitat for Humanity projects, Salvation Army volunteering and Meals on Wheels on a regular basis.
In short, we are a relatively small church with a huge impact, both in our spiritual life and our community life. We would love to have you come grow with us!
