My name is Malinda (Mindy) Burns, and I am the new parish administrator at Trinity Episcopal Church. This church has been a hidden gem for a while, and I would like very much to change that. We help this community through many different programs; Laundry Love, helping with bus tickets for people just getting into the workplace, and donations to community organizations such as MCSA, the L-M school hygiene closet and our blessing box which is outside. We are not rich, but we give what we can and enjoy doing so. Many people told me before I joined that this is an “old people church;” I am here to happily say it is not. In the past two months, we’ve done Trunk or Treat at the soccer field, gone to Ardon Creek for music, met for rock painting, pumpkin painting, beading work shops and crocheting. We have a potluck dinner every Wednesday at the church from 5:30pm to 7pm where we eat and learn about the infinite mercy and goodness of God. We are working to become more focused on activities for our younger members, including movie nights, religious education, and Sunday activities. We have also partnered with Crossroads and offer space for the regular dayhab program, so their clients can take advantage of the opportunities in downtown Muscatine for shopping, reading, and meeting with friends. People with disabilities come to our parish hall from 9am to 2 pm Monday through Friday. Do you need a place for a holiday meal or connection, We also rent out the parish hall for non-members as well as members at an incredibly reasonable rate. So for birthday parties and any event you need a big space we are happy to accommodate. We will be holding a soup supper, like we do every year, at the parish hall for the Holiday Stroll on the 2nd of December this year. We always need volunteers for that. Furthermore, we will also be in the near future hiring a choir at 25.00/ per person a performance for our Sunday service. That may also turn into a 300.00 grant from the church towards school for a lucky person. So I would say the saying, “oh, it’s an old people church”, is wrong. We look forward to doing great things in this community we all love, please do not hesitate to call me at 563-263-2177 or email me at malindaburnstrinitychurch@gmail.com.
