BELIEFS

How am I saved? Justification Our church teachers that people cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merits, or works. People are freely justified for Christ's sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor and that their sins are forgiven for Christ's sake. By his death, Christ made satisfaction for our sins. God counts this faith for righteousness in his sight (Romans 3:21-26; 4:5). To justify means to declare righteous. God declares a sinner righteous by forgiving his sins and crediting Christ's righteousness to him. This forgiveness/justification can only be received through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We cannot be saved by our good works. We are saved through faith in Jesus Christ alone. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Scriptural Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Confessional Lutheran congregation. We believe that the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the inspired Word of God (2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Timothy 3:16). God's Word is without errors and infallible (Isaiah 55:10-11). We believe that saving faith comes from hearing the word of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:17). Confessional We call ourselves confessional, because we subscribe to the Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as found in the Book of Concord (1580). We believe that the unaltered Augsburg Confesssion (1530) and its Apology (1531), the Small and Large Catechism (1529) of Martin Luther, the Smalcald Articles (1538), the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope (1537), and the Formula of Concord (1577), which make up the Book of Concord are in full agreement with the Holy Scriptures. These writings are a right exposition of God's Word. Creedal Trinity Lutheran boldly confesses the three ancient Ecumenical Creeds of the Christian Church, the Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian. Therefore, We confess that God is the Holy Trinity. There is one God, yet three distinct Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is unbegotten, the Son is begotten of the Father alone, and the Holy Spirit is not begotten, but proceeds from the Father and the Son. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are equal in majesty, power, and eternity. They share the same divine essence, yet they are distinct Persons. There are not three Gods, but one. We hold this mystery to be true, because of the witness of Holy Scripture. We confess that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God "for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end."
