About St. Michael's Episcopal Church

We are a family-friendly mission church in the Metro East (suburban St Louis) area of southern Illinois, very close to Scott Air Force Base. We exist to love and worship God, and to love everybody in his Name the way he loves us. We offer you a warm welcome and the love of Jesus Christ, and we invite you to join us in worship. Jesus calls us to do two things: love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. The whole of God's law, the whole of our lives, and the whole mission of God's people are centered on these two commandments. In the Church, we express our love for God by putting our very best into the worship we offer, where we celebrate his immeasurable love for us. Then, fed from his Altar and filled with his grace, we share his love with everybody, whether they're part of the Church or not. That's what we strive to do at St Michael's. And we'd love for you to come and see! Mass begins at 9:15 AM on Sundays, followed by fellowship and coffee. Come and visit! All are welcome!

BELIEFS

As Episcopalians, we are followers of Jesus Christ, and both our worship and our mission are in Christ’s name. In Jesus, we find that the nature of God is love, and through baptism, we share in his victory over sin and death. In the waters of baptism we are lovingly adopted by God into God’s family, which we call the Church, and given God’s own life to share and reminded that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ. The bible is our foundation, understood through tradition and reason, containing all things necessary for salvation. Our worship is filled with Scripture from beginning to end. The Episcopal Church takes reading the Bible very seriously. Approximately 70% of the Book of Common Prayer comes directly from the Bible, and Episcopalians read more Holy Scripture in Sunday worship than almost any other denomination in Christianity. We will always have questions, but in the two foundational statements of faith – the Apostles’ Creed used at baptism, and the Nicene Creed used at communion – we join Christians throughout the ages in affirming our faith in the one God who created us, redeemed us, and sanctifies us. We agree with these Doctrinal Statements: Apostles Creed Nicene Creed
