Meet The Pastor

Rev. Kathlyn Ruth Nealand was originally from the New York City/Long Island area. She is a second career minister, first working for the Department of Navy, working at several banks in the Loan Department while getting her bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Special Education. She received her Master of Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, New Brunswick, NJ. She was ordained in the Presbytery of Long Island, October 9, 2005, and had served five churches on Long Island and Staten Island before coming to Michigan. In 2017, she and her husband, John, found themselves moving to West Michigan to serve the First Presbyterian Church of Allegan in the Presbytery of Lake Michigan. In 2022, she accepted a call to the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Clemens in the Presbytery of Detroit. Kathlyn married her husband, John in 1988. She has two sons from a prior marriage and one grandson who is 7 years old. They have two small rescue dogs named Ellie and Buffy. John is a Real Estate Appraiser and loves to play golf. They love to travel, particularly on cruises. Kathlyn loves to read and listen to music. She is a teacher and pastor at heart. “When I think about my call to Mount Clemens, I believe that it was as if God was preparing me to come here right from the first time, I served a congregation. I have found the people in Mount Clemens to be friendly, welcoming, and open to wherever the Holy Spirit may be moving the church. The people here have a great thirst to know the Lord and to serve the Lord with their whole heart, mind, body, and soul and to love all others as God has loved them. Their generosity in the use of their time, talents and treasures is most impressive. I believe that you will see this for yourself when you attend our church. I look forward to the opportunity to assist you in your faith journey.” I thank God for you, Pastor Kathy Nealand
