About Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Matthew
A friendly household of faith, we are the oldest Lutheran congregation in America. On December 6, 1664, the Congregation of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession of Faith - the first Lutherans on the island of Manhattan received their charter from the first British Governor, Richard Nicholls. Now in the 350th year of Gospel ministry, we give thanks to God for his ever abiding presence and his mighty hand in bringing us to this time of celebration.
