Meet The Pastor

Pastor Maxwell George
I was born and raised in a Christian family (nominal christians) but the family disputes led to separation of my parents and I grew up almost my whole teens and young adult in boarding school even on days when kids would return to their homes in vacation. But today when I look back I see that as a God's plan for my life as those were the days which made me learn more of Christian faith, I enjoyed music so I was always part of the singing and choir in the chapel. And as grew to an age I had sponsorship to complete my engineering so I completed hardware engineering, but after couple of years of working, I felt void in my heart always and once I was invited by youth for Christ (YFC) in a summer camp I felt a strong call on my life to serve the Lord and I surrendered my life to Jesus. Then further I continued my formal Christian education through theology courses and then later completed my Masters in religion education (MRE) and M.A in theology. For many years some mentors and elders of the former church kept telling me I should be a Pastor but I never saw myself as a Pastor and kept running away like Jonah. I was always happy to be a teacher and train Pastors and leaders all over India to equip me in correctly interpreting the word of God. But His plans are beautiful and soon after 2 years of prayer and counsel I finally started a fellowship in New Delhi, India. It is still functioning under the banner of Urban Life Fellowship.
Why did I decide on New York? : Past few years I have been coming to the US as a guest preacher in some churches. I was always sad to see that this nation has many church buildings unlike India but few attendees. This time last year when I came here on a visit I was led strongly to file my documents for Missionary VISA and I informed my wife and kids about it. All I prayed was that if it is in the will of God I will get approval else I will go back to my home country. I applied my papers and awaited the results. When approval came through my family joined from India after 8 months we were together. But this was a beautiful phase of life where we came so close to God as a family. My family arrived here just with suitcases of clothes and giving away everything else. My wife gave her resignation at the verge when she was up for a promotion in Dell US. And since that day till today we have seen His grace and provision all these months.
What made me choose New York? When I came here as a preacher, I found many South Asians who come to this great city for studies, jobs and better living but in a tug of war of life they are away from faith and ethical life. This city has so much exposure to things that keeps people away from God. And I felt this is a good ground to reach people in this city and that led me to plant an Indian (Hindi ) church here in this city.
This church is under the banner of Metropolitan Baptist Church and functions as Metropolitan Bible Fellowship at 6 pm.
