The Ambler Church of the Brethren affirms the core beliefs of our denomination, the Church of the Brethren, which began in 1708 in Germany. Eight believers, influenced by Anabaptist and Pietist teachings, read their Bibles and felt led to follow Jesus and his teachings. They started by being baptized as adults. The Church of the Brethren:
* Affirms and teaches the same basic Christian beliefs shared by Protestant denominations.
* Observes the Ordinances (practices) of
- Believer's baptism (adults);
- Communion and Love Feast (Love Feast means a full meal, including washing of feet... like Jesus told us to do);
- Laying on of hands; and
- Anointing for healing and wholeness.
* Follows Jesus and the Bible as guide for moral values, and applies the teachings of Jesus for service and justice for all people.
* Teaches nonviolence based on Jesus and his example, and is an historic peace church.
* Acknowledges the Spirit of God for guidance and power.
* Witnesses to
- a simple lifestyle;
- service to our neighbors;
- integrity of speech and conduct;
- care of creation; and that
- all war is sin.
* Honors the beliefs and convictions of others, and teaches that there should be no force in the matters of belief and practice.
