The True God We believe that there is but only one living and true God, revealed in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. Exodus 20:3; 1 John 5:7 Jesus Christ We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and that He is truly God and truly man. We believe in His virgin birth; that He shed His blood on the cross as our substitute for the remission of sins; in His bodily resurrection, ascension to heaven, and His second coming, which will be personal, visible and glorious. Matthew 1:23; John 1:1, 14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Matthew 25:31 The Holy Spirit We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, equal in substance and majesty with the Father and the Son. He is present upon earth today to convict people of sin, to regenerate, infill, empower, guide, and to be counselor and advocate. All that the Holy Spirit does is consistent with Christ, and His sovereign will is to glorify Christ. Every believer should seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit. John 14:16-18; Romans 8:9-11; Galatians 5:16; I John 4:13 Salvation We believe that salvation (justification) is the gift of God and is received by faith in Christ alone, and not the result of works or human merit. The saving grace of God not only justifies, but regenerates, whereby the believer is given new life and power to serve and love God. Where salvation is genuine, it will be manifested in the new life of the believer. John 3:16; Acts 4:10-12, 16:30-31; Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:8-10 The Bible / Word of God We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible / inerrant Word of God – the supreme and final authority for faith, life, and truth. These Scriptures consist of the Old and New Testaments, a total of sixty-six books. Deuteronomy 6:6-9; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Revelation 22:18-19 The Church We believe the Church is one united spiritual body of which Jesus Christ is the Head, made up of all who are born-again believers in Jesus Christ. It is composed of those who associate together according to God’s Word for the purpose of worship, edification, spiritual growth, and service. Acts 2:46-47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Hebrews 10:24-25 Ordinances We believe there are two ordinances given by our Lord: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in Christ as Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the Church memorialize the death of Christ and anticipate His second coming through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine. Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:41; Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28 The Future We believe in the glorious second coming of Christ, that the exact time is unrevealed but imminent. When He first comes, He will remove the true Church from the earth and pour out His righteous judgments upon the unbelieving world. Then He will return with His Church and establish His glorious and literal kingdom upon the earth for a thousand years. Afterwards the final judgment occurs, and eternal life begins. Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-5:2; Matthew 24:30-31; Revelation 20:4 Creation We believe in the Genesis account of the creation and believe that man came by the direct creation of God. In the beginning God created the world and all the things therein, thus manifesting the glory of His power, wisdom, and goodness. Genesis 1:1-31; Isaiah 45:18; John 1:3 People / Mankind We believe people are God’s treasure, fashioned in His image, male and female – a unique creation. Man fell from a state of righteousness through disobedience; therefore, he is separated from God, sinful by nature, and unable to save himself. All men everywhere stand in need of the grace of God and the atonement provided by the death of Christ. Genesis 1:26-28, 3:6-7; Romans 3:23, 5:12, 15, 19 Angels and Satan We believe there are special spiritual beings created by God called angels who serve various functions and perform various acts as agents of God – as “ministering spirits” – on the earth among people. Genesis 3:24; Isaiah 6:1-2, 6; Luke 2:13; Revelation 5:11 One of these beings, Satan, a real and personal being, is called “the prince of this world,” and “the god of this age.” He rebelled against God and, along with the many angels who joined him, was cast from heaven. He is that wicked one who represents all that is opposite to God. He is the arch-enemy of the believer, and blinds the minds of the unbelieving. He is a defeated foe – defeated by Christ on the cross – whose ultimate destiny is eternal punishment. Yet he is presently the great deceiver and powerful enemy of believers, using many means to achieve his ends. Genesis 3:1, 3:15; Isaiah 14:12-16; Ephesians 2:2; Hebrews 2:14; 1 Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:10
