Our Mission

Reverent in Reaching Up, Relevant in Reaching Out
Reformed: We believe in the doctrines of grace, those recovered at the Protestant Reformation and enshrined in the Synod of Dordt and championed by the Puritans, that salvation is by the sovereign mercy of God and not by human will or works (Romans 9:16), and that when we gather for worship we do so with God at the center, careful to worship in Spirit and in truth – the truth of His Word (John 4:23, John 17:17) and that the church should be organized Biblically, with multiple elders and meaningful membership. * Multi-racial: We believe that the Lord Jesus calls all kinds of people together to form one church (John 10:16) and that nothing ought to separate Christians (except unrepentant sin) (Eph. 2:15f). Therefore, we believe that a Biblical church should look like the community in which it lives. 中国部抒情诗可利用 * Active: We believe that every member of a church should be supplying some gift (Eph. 4:16). We are a community of believers who meet to be discipled, seeking to grow in holiness, reverently and joyfully worshiping a holy God and so equipped to go out as missionaries, being relevant when reaching out.

Pastor Pastor John Carpenter is a graduate of Samford University (BA in English and Religion), Fuller Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Th.M., thesis topic: Confucianism and Biblical Wisdom Literature), and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (Ph.D. in Church History). While studying for his Ph.D., he was a teaching assistant for Nobel Laureate Robert W. Fogel at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He is the author of various articles (peer-reviewed academic ones and popular-level ones) and, with his wife, a former missionary to Ethiopia. He is joined in shepherding Covenant by other elders. Why Covenant? We’re named “Covenant” because that is what God makes with His people so that we will be saved: a covenant promise based on the Lord’s gracious work. God made promises that He fulfilled in the New Covenant the Lord Jesus established in His blood. Further, we’re called to be in covenant relationships with each other, as church members, committed to being in a body together. Worship: 11:00 a.m. God-centered worship with psalm singing and the best of old hymns and new songs, with through-the-Bible preaching, at the Providence Gym (6611 Old NC Hwy 86 N., Providence, NC), just about 3.5 miles south of the Virginia state line.
