About City Central Church

City Central Church was founded in the late 1990s as a young adult Saturday night worship service seeking revival, freedom in Christ and God's heart for the emerging generation. Over the years, the church has matured, moved to Sunday mornings and come to include all ages. But it still maintains that hunger for God and radical commitment to follow Christ that marked its early days.

City Central Vision & Values

City Central Church aims to be a community that is real with God and one another, worshipping Jesus with our lives. We want nothing more than to be like Christ and to advance his Kingdom. We look for opportunities to reach the lost with the good news about Jesus Christ. We seek the restoration of the broken from from places of deception, addiction, wounding and injustice. And finally, we are a training center: We want our own members as well as visitors to leave our house more equipped to carry out the call of God on their lives.

In addition to these visionary ideals, the culture of our church can identified by a number of practical distinctives. We are grounded in the Word of God and also rely on the enabling and gifting of the Holy Spirit. In humility, we seek to live from the place of God's presence, by His authority and in community and unity with each other. We minister first to the Lord, then to our brothers and sisters in Christ and finally to the world around us. We believe God's voice is meant to be heard, His healing is meant to be experienced and our hearts are capable of being transformed. We believe we have a responsibility to train and raise up the next generation called to follow Christ and also that our experience of God's kingdom on this earth should include a love for (and a brotherhood with) the diversity of the ethnicities and nations that comprise His Kingdom.

City Central Church Worship

City Central Worship

Worship is a bedrock of who we are at City Central Tacoma. Sunday mornings are times of worship, praise and adoration to the King of kings. There is something about raising our voices as one body of believers that ascribes to God the glory He deserves while binding us together as a band of worshippers, imparting unique individual revelation of God's majesty and filling us afresh with His Spirit to empower us for the week that lay ahead.

Worship Pastor, Jason Bradley, has been leading worship in one capacity or another at City Central Church for 20 years. He and his wife, Gretchen, have written numerous songs, some of which we sing on Sunday mornings, and have released two albums of worship, while also discipling and pouring into the lives of many young adults and raising their three children.

Worship at City Central Church is a mix of contemporary and occasionally traditional songs of praise, including worship songs by artists from the International House of Prayer, Bethel Music and several other songwriters and artists from evangelical and charismatic backgrounds.

City Central Church Training

City Central Teaching & Training

City Central in Tacoma has always placed an emphasis on remaining rooted and grounded in God's Word, and that is the foundation on which all of the church's teaching and training is based. Sermons are primarily delivered by Lead Pastor Chris Hippe with occasional guest preachers, and while the messages focus on many different subjects and passages of Scripture, central themes include the power of the gospel, victorious living in Christ and God's truth and love for each one of us.

Pastor Chris has been part of City Central leadership for two decades and has passion to train and equip the church. He also heads up the church's Freedom Immersions, which are events that draw folks from Tacoma and out of town to explore greater levels of freedom from the lies and bondage that hold us back as believers. Attendees experience powerful teaching, participate in hands-on learning and receive prayer from a trained team.

City Central Church also offers training or seminar-style classes for adults on Wednesday nights as well as special enrichment nights focusing on topics like marriage and parenting every few months.

City Central Community

City Central Community

Community has always been a key component of life at City Central Tacoma. The church facilitates life groups throughout the city of Tacoma, which provides great regular fellowship for church members and attenders. Families frequently host out-of-towners visiting Tacoma for a Freedom Immersion or other City Central ministry, while many singles and young adults at the church choose to share housing while attending City Central. Additionally, the church houses 10-20 young adults in a renovated mansion in Tacoma with two married couples on site as disciplers and mentors.

We have two Sunday morning worship services at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. On Tuesday nights, Encounter (Young adult ministry) meets at church at 7 p.m. alternating from a worship night to a small group. BELIEFS

The Bible

We believe the Scriptures as originally given by God, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, infallible, entirely trustworthy, and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

God the Father

We believe God the Father, the first person of the Trinity, orders and disposes all things according to His own purposes and grace. He has decreed for His glory all that comes to pass. He has graciously decreed the plan by which mankind might receive forgiveness of sin and be reconciled to Him, and has chosen from eternity those whom He would save from sin through Jesus Christ. (Psalm 8:1-4, John 3:16, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 1:5)

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He is without sin as to nature, unable to sin in principle, and did not sin in fact. We further believe in His vicarious and atoning death by crucifixion, in His bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of God the Father. He will personally return in power and glory, and He is the final judge of all. (John 1:1-3, Romans 1:3-4, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, John 14:1-7, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Revelation 22:12)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, regenerates with spiritual life those who believe in the gospel, indwells the Christian and seals their salvation the instant they receive the gift of eternal life by trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. At that same moment, the Spirit places the Christian into the Body of Christ in spiritual union with Jesus Christ and other Christians, and He sanctifies the Christian in holiness and gifts. He enables the Christian to serve in a way that bears spiritual fruit for God and the Church of Jesus Christ. (John 16:8, Titus 3:5, Ephesians 1:13, 1 Corinthians 12:4-13, Galatians 5:21-23)

Man

We believe that the first man and woman were directly and immediately created by God in His image, free from sin. Man subsequently fell into sin by a voluntary act of willful disobedience to the revealed will of God. As a result, every human being of all ages is a sinner by divine pronouncement, nature, and deed, subject to the wrath of God. (Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 2:15-17, Romans 3:10-18, 23)

Salvation

We believe that mankind is utterly unable to save themselves from the power or penalty of sin. Each person must receive eternal life and forgiveness of sin on the basis of the grace of God through faith in the work that Christ accomplished in dying for the sin of mankind and resurrecting from the dead. It is only those who believe in Jesus Christ who become born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9-10, John 1:12)

The Church

We believe that in the ultimate sense, Christ’s church is composed of all who have been saved and will be with Him in heaven. The local expression of the church, therefore, is to be a group of people who are genuinely saved, trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ and His atoning death for their salvation. (Ephesians 1:7, 1:22, 3:10, 5:23, Romans 10:9-10)

Spiritual Gifts

We believe that all spiritual gifts are in operation and that the Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts on all Christians for the purpose of winning the lost and strengthening believers for godly service to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 12-14)

Our Enemy

We believe that Satan is a personage, and a fallen angel with a host of fallen angels with him. He is a powerful but limited creature, subordinate to God. He is the chief enemy of God and the accuser of mankind who continually seeks to counterfeit and pervert the works and truth of God. (Isaiah 14:12-14, Ezekiel 28:11-19, John 10:10, 1 Peter 5:8)

Eternity

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of believers to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord; and of unbelievers to judgment and eternal punishment. (1 Corinthians 15:35-49, Revelation 20:11-15)

The Kingdom of God and Final Judgment

We believe that God’s Kingdom has come in the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, that it continues in the ministry of the Spirit through the Church, and that it will be consummated in the glorious, visible and triumphant appearing of Christ (His return to earth as King). After Christ returns to reign, He will bring about the final defeat of Satan all of his minions and work, the resurrection of the dead, the final Judgment, and the eternal blessing of the righteous and eternal conscious punishment of the wicked. (Colossians 1:18-20, Revelation 20:7-15)

Finally, God will be all in all and His Kingdom, His rule and His reign, will be fulfilled in the new heavens and the new earth, recreated by His mighty power, in which righteousness dwells and in which He will forever be worshiped. (Revelation 21:1-4)
