About First Presbyterian Church

We are a place to serve God and to love one another. Table fellowship is important to us as we gather at least monthly for fellowship dinners. Worship and the sacraments are extremely important to us and involves reading and interpreting the scripture. Our worship involves everyone present. The two sacraments that we celebrate are baptism and the Lord's Supper. Prayer is also extremely important as we meet weekly to pray people within our church, our community and throughout the world.

BELIEFS

Our name comes from our tradition of choosing "elders" from among the wisest members of the church. We believe in our leaders working together to seek God's will for the life of the church. Even though the majority rules, we seek to hear each one's view. ALL THAT IS REQUIRED to become a Presbyterian IS to: CONFESS belief in Jesus Christ, PROMISE to follow Christ's example for living and COMMIT oneself to attend church and become involved in its work. FPC in Hinton has served the Summers County community since 1872 and is one of the historical churches in downtown Hinton. It's programs seek to serve those who are in need of Christ's love and concern. WE BELIEVE: God created the universe, Jesus was the incarnation of God on earth, and the Holy Spirit continues to be God's presence in the world and in the believer. Everyone who follows Jesus is part of the church universal. The Bible is the inspired word of God. New life is possible by accepting Jesus' love for us as demonstrated by the crucifixion. Jesus' resurrection brings us life everlasting. WE HOPE THAT MEMBERS WILL: Attend worship, read the Bible, and pray often! Participate in church fellowship and outreach! Give generously of your gifts and talents! Support the work of the church in the world.
