OUR MISSION
University AMEZ Church is a church that has been uniquely placed by God not only to reach the least, the lost and the lonely in the Bay Area, but around the world. A Church that honors the purpose of our Methodist traditions but speaks to the heart of our post modern world. A Church which strives to be the “Freedom Church” for all people no matter their race, ethnicity, age or sex.
ABOUT UNIVERSITY AME ZION
Welcome to University AME Zion Church. University AME Zion Church was founded in 1918 to provide a refuge for African American migrant workers to gather, build relationships, and create an atmosphere for authentic worship. For nearly 100 years University AME Zion has grown from its humble, historic beginnings into a vibrant place of community reaching people from all walks of life in the Silicon Valley. Today University AME Zion Church warmly welcomes with open arms a diverse mix of cultures from varying socioeconomic and generational backgrounds. Families, singles, seniors, students, and more are finding their place at University. We are an active faith community providing love to the lost and compassion to the hurting, while supporting all people in their worship, witness, and work for God.

BELIEFS
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church professes the historical faith in God, who by Himself – outpouring, was manifest incarnate in Jesus Christ for our salvation. By God’s grace and the power of His Holy Spirit all believers become the new humanity. The incarnation having reached its completion in Jesus, who is the Christ, is continuing in the Church and is overcoming the calamity of the human predicament. We strive in the hope that the Church will grow from sinful existence through purification to oneness with God.
Our Heritage in doctrine and our present theological task demand that we renew our faith and understanding of the love of God, our Father, and the Lordship of His Son, Jesus. We believe that all who have faith in Him will be empowered and invigorated by the Holy Spirit to risk all for the reconciling work and fulfillment of the Kingdom of God.
