Our Mission

What We Believe: The Affirmation of Faith (The Apostle's Creed) We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His Only Son Our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under the Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead, and buried; the third day he arose form the dead, he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God The Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit the holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

For more than 50 years St. James CME (SJCME) has been a vital support system to the community of Salinas and surrounding areas. We strive to make an impact beyond the walls of our church and serve our near neighbors struggling with tangible needs. At SJCME we have a ministry that feeds the hungry every second Monday of each month. We also have a food pantry ministry that gives out food every Saturday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Additionally, we have a Prison, Youth and Counseling Ministries to offer emotional and spiritual support to those in need. SJCME is an active force in the efforts to build a better society and many are coming to depend upon our church for support and service. The African American Lectionary’s Big Idea Project features small churches doing big things, and St. James was noted as such a church. Homeless Feeding Ministry 2nd Monday of the Month at 4:30pm Hospitality Ministry Come and enjoy a down home breakfast Sundays at 10:30 am and attend church after for a spiritual meal that will satisfy your soul. Food pantry ministry that gives out food every Saturday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Prison Ministry The church receives names from community members and recommendations from the correctional facility and makes weekly contact with these people. Moreover, the church is also expanding its prison ministry by assisting inmates in their housing and employment searches once they are released from prison. Currently, St. James CME Church funds its prison ministry through donations and offerings. In the future, however, St. James hopes to partner with community agencies and other churches to provide a wide array of services to those who have been incarcerated so that they may help decrease the recidivism rate in its community. St. James is proving that a small church can make a BIG difference in its community. This small church with a BIG IDEA is choosing to answer the call to minister to those who are often overlooked.
