BELIEFS

1) The Holy Bible We believe in the verbal inspiration of the original text of the Holy Scripture, both the Old and New Testaments; and we are committed to the sufficiency of Scripture as our final authority for faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; I Peter 1:23-25) 2) The Trinity We believe in one God revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; John 17) 3) God the Father We believe God the Father is the almighty creator of heaven and earth. (Genesis 1:1; Exodus 20:11, Isaiah 40:28, Psalm 115:15, Acts 14:15) 4) God the Son We believe that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is God come in the flesh and He is both fully God and fully human. (Luke 1:26-28; John 14:1-3; Acts 2:36, 3:14-15; Ephesians 1:3-15; Philippians 2:5- 12; I John 4:2) 5) God the Holy Spirit We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity whose purpose in redemption is to convict us of sin, regenerate our dead hearts, guide us into understanding the Scriptures, transform us into the image of Christ, empower us for ministry and service, and disperse spiritual gifts as he wills. We believe all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as recorded in Scripture are valid in the Church today. (John 16:8-11; 2 Corinthi- ans 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ro- mans 8:9) 6) Man We believe all human beings, in their nat- ural state, are sinners - lost, undone, without hope, and without God. (Romans 3:19-23; Galatians 3:22; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12) 7) Jesus’ Death We believe Jesus was crucified under Pontius Pilate and died in our place for the forgiveness of our sins. He received from God the wrath our sins incurred so we could be justified and enter God’s new creation. (Acts 4:12; Romans 4:1-9; 5:1-11, Ephesians 1:3-15; 2 Corinthians 5:17) 8) Jesus’ Resurrection We believe Jesus Christ rose from the dead physically and literally and lives today as the Lord over all creation. (Luke 24:39-43; John 20:24-29; Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 15) 9) Jesus’ Ascension We believe Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of the Father and is now making intercession for us. (John 14:1-6, Acts 1; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 6:20, 7:25) 10) Jesus’ Second Coming We believe Jesus Christ will return to the earth visibly and bodily to raise the dead, to judge, and to recreate the heavens and the earth. (John 14:3; Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; 2 Peter 3:11-13; Revelation 21) 11) Salvation We believe God saves by his gracious actions and not by human works. In response to God’s grace, we turn from our sin and by faith turn to Christ in order to receive God’s free gift of eternal life. (Acts 3:19-20; Romans 3:23 -25, 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:3-7, 2:8-10) 12) Local Church We believe the local church is a community of believers baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit; who assemble to worship, minister as the Holy Spirit leads, and carry forth the Great Commission. (Matthew 16:18, 28:19-20; Acts 2:40-47, 20:28; Ephesians 5:22-32, 3:10; 1 Timothy 3:15) 13) The Lord’s Supper We believe the Lord's Supper (communion) represents our redemption. It is a memorial of the sufferings and death of Christ, and a token of love and the union we have with Christ and one another. (Luke 22:13-20; I Corinthians 11:23-30) 14) Water Baptism We believe water baptism signifies entrance into the house- hold of faith. It is a symbol of death to self and new birth in Christ, representing repentance and inner cleansing from sin. It is an act of obedience for those who put their faith in Christ. (Matthew 3:15-16, 28:19-20; Acts 8:38; Romans 6:1-4 15) Spirit Baptism We believe that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate and subsequent experience of the Spirit. This initial filling of the Holy Spirit is often a conscious experience for those who have come to Christ and experienced new birth. (Matthew 3:11; Luke 11:13; John 14:16-17; Acts 1:4-8, 2:4, 39-48; 10:44-47; 19:1-6, Ephesians 5:18)
