What We PRACTICE
Here are some common practices of Zion Congregational Church. They are listed to help you know what to expect when participating in the life of Zion Church, but also to help you understand how we put our faith into practice. May God bless you on your journey!
OPEN COMMUNION: Communion is a sacrament given to us by our Lord Jesus. All who have claimed Christ are welcomed to participate in communion services. It is traditional that the children of Zion partake in their first communion when they are confirmed.
BAPTISM: A sign and seal of salvation in Jesus Christ. We affirm both infant and adult baptism, as baptism is an act of God and not of man. Infant baptism is a covenant made by the child’s family with God to raise the child to be a Christian. Adult baptism is open to any adult who has received Christ as Lord and Savior and wishes to proclaim his identification with Christ.
CONFIRMATION: The purpose of Confirmation class is to teach young people about the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of being a Christian. When young people profess their faith and commit their life to Christ, the Confirmation service confirms their earlier baptism, signifying their identification with Christ.
MARRIAGE: We believe that Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God.
THE LORD’S PRAYER: It is the traditional practice of this church to recite the Lord’s Prayer as a regular part of our worship service. We use the traditional “debts” and “debtors” language.
THE APOSTLES’ CREED: It is the traditional practice of this church to read the Apostle’s Creed at special times and worship services throughout the year.
BELIEFS
WE BELIEVE…
That THE BIBLE is the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.
That THE TRINITY is one God, eternally existent in three “persons”: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In the LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST. We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
In man’s need for REDEMPTION. That humanity is lost and sinful and in need of regeneration by the Holy Spirit.
That through the HOLY SPIRIT by whose indwelling, power, and fullness, a Christian is enabled to live a Godly life in this present evil world.
In the RESURRECTION of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved are saved into the resurrection of life; those who are lost are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
That SALVATION is a free gift of Godly grace, offered to us on the basis of Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross. Salvation is received personally by recognition and repentance for sin, and by believing (faith) that Christ’s death paid the price for that sin, and secures for the individual a place within God’s eternal kingdom. This salvation provides for the believer the provisions for victory over the power of sin in this life.
In a CONGREGATIONAL FORM OF CHURCH GOVERNMENT. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of His Body, the Church universal, and that the local church is answerable only to Christ, and not to any association, conference, council, synod, or any other ecclesiastical body.

Both
