About Good Shepherd United Church Of Christ
Good Shepherd United Church Of Christ is a Christian church in Metairie Louisiana. This United Church of Christ church serves the Kenner, Metairie, Jefferson, and the entire New Orleans, Louisiana metro area.
Good Shepherd was born out of two Uptown New Orleans UCC congregations, St. John UCC and Bethany UCC, that merged together and adopted their new name Good Shepherd in 1976. Good Shepherd began holding services in Harold Keller School in Metairie until the current Good Shepherd location at 5122 West Esplanade was built in 1980.
Some of us have been members since birth and many of us have come from other denominations or traditions. We welcome all - as did Jesus - to partake in the ministries, programs and rituals of our congregation.

As a congregation of the United Church of Christ, Good Shepherd embraces a theological heritage that affirms the Bible as the authoritative witness to the Word of God, the creeds of the ecumenical councils, and the confessions of the Reformation. The UCC has roots in the "covenantal" tradition—meaning there is no centralized authority or hierarchy that can impose any doctrine or form of worship on its members. Christ alone is Head of the church. We seek a balance between freedom of conscience and accountability to the apostolic faith. Therefore, as a UCC congregation, we receive the historic creeds and confessions of our ancestors as testimonies, but not necessarily as tests of the faith.
