Children's Church After hearing the Scripture and children's message in the worship service, elementary-aged children through grade 3 may proceed upstairs for Children's Church, where they do hands-on activities (during the sermon and conclusion of the worship service). Sunday School Sunday School for children of all ages is offered during our church's education hour (9:00 - 9:50 am) on Sunday mornings. Sunday School is a fun and friendly time to learn about God and His will for our lives. We sing, listen to Bible stories and celebrate God's love through a variety of fun activities. Sunday School provides an opportunity for children to grow spiritually in their individual faith journeys. Children's Choir Children who love to sing can join us every Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm for our Children's Choir rehearsal. We have lots of fun. About once a month, we sing during the church service. Immediately following choir is children's hand chimes from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Childcare Caring and friendly nursery care is available for children who are too young to participate in the Children's Ministries. Childcare is also available during most other church programs. Wednesday Evenings On Wednesday evenings, our church family enjoys dinner together as a family of faith. This program, also known as FISH begins with dinner at 6:00 pm, followed by classes from 6:45 pm to 8:00 pm. During this time, elementary-aged children enjoy a variety of activities such as stories, scripture memory, music, games and art. Upon request, childcare for younger children is available in the nursery. Special Events Keep an eye on our calendar. There is always something fun going on at First Pres! Activities like the Puppet Party, movie nights and game nights provide opportunities for quality family time. Vacation Bible School During Vacation Bible School (VBS), children explore a Biblical theme through music, stories, drama, crafts and other activities. VBS is a summer highlight for children at our church! 4:12 is the 6th-8th grade youth group CREW is the 9th-12th grade youth group. Converge is all about growing, sharing and serving together as believers in Christ. Made up of metro Detroit young adults from various churches and backgrounds, as well as those who are searching for where they belong, Converge is a point where the lives of young adults (ages 18-31) meet. We aim to leave behind what separates us, and meet with other young adults to build something new, genuine, and hope-filled. Sunday Mornings - 9:00 am Each class is focused on understanding what God's Word says and how we apply it in our daily lives. Wednesday Evenings (FISH) - 6:00 pm Our Wednesday evening all-church gathering is FISH (Fellowship, Inspiration, Scripture and Hope). We begin with dinner at 6:00 pm, followed by classes for all ages at 6:45pm until 8:00 pm. We usually offer 1-2 classes for adults at FISH. Small Groups - Various times throughout the month We have a number of small groups that meet monthly or bi-weekly that provide our adults with the ongoing support and Christian friendship that all believers need. They focus on different themes and styles and we are always open to starting new groups as the need arises. For more information on small groups click here. Bible Studies In addition to our small group Bible studies and our Sunday morning/Wednesday evening classes, we also offer a weekly Thursday morning Bible study for women and a bi-weekly Wednesday morning Bible study for men. Retreats We seek to offer retreats during the year that provide that extra time for fun, fellowship and study. Teaching and Service Opportunities An important part of our spiritual growth is serving others by using our spiritual gifts. We encourage people to use their gifts to help any of our ministries or to start a new one. Giving people opportunities to serve, via short-term or long-term, is important to First Pres. Rebekah's Circle - Meets the first Saturday of the month at 9:00 am. We do Bible studies and prepare meals for various groups at the church. Lydia-Martha Mary Circle - Meets the third Thursday of the month at 1:00 pm. This year, we participated in the Thursday morning Bible study, worked at the Silent Auction and the Cookie Walk and other projects. Lamkin PW Bible Study - This Bible study meets on Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the North Parlor of First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn. We are studying our spiritual gifts, “Discovering God’s Vision For Your Life.” Anyone can join in at any time through out the study. We will be starting a study on PRAYER in April with the Women of Faith Bible Study, "Adventurous Prayer." Come and join us for lively discussion as we deepen our relationship with Jesus through the study of His Word. Visit our blog for a review of this study and to discuss current PW events!! Stephens-Currie Bible Study - Using an open forum discussion style, this group is open to all men of the church and meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 10:00 am until 11:20 am. Tuesday Morning Work Crew - This group meets to repair and beautify the church building and grounds. It is open to all men of the church and meets from 9:00 am until noon. Work varies depending on the season and what needs to be repaired. There is no skill requirement other than it helps if you can use a hammer without hitting your thumb. Service Behind the Scenes - We also have the great responsibility of providing the white rose during Sunday services in the sanctuary to remember and honor our deceased members and their families.

BELIEFS

We are a Presbyterian Church with a strong reformed and evangelical theology based on The Five Solas, the essential tenets of the Reformed Faith. We believe that God the Father has created us all uniquely and who you are matters deeply to Him. We believe that through His love, God sent His Son to die in our place so that we might be forgiven and restored in relationship because all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. Jesus loves you and so do we. We believe that God’s Holy Spirit is with us, guides us, empowers us and gives us peace, calling us to love each other while serving and reaching out to a hurting world in need of a savior. We believe that the Bible is the Word of God given to us so we would know God’s love and plan for our lives.
