BELIEFS

CONFESSION OF FAITH This congregation confesses the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This congregation confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. a. Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation. b. The proclamation of God’s message to us as both Law and Gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgement and mercy through word and deed, beginning with the Word in creation, continuing in the history of Israel, and centering in all its fullness in the person and work of Jesus Christ. c. The canonical scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God. Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s will for His people in every age and finally reveal His Son Jesus Christ, who is Himself the incarnate Word of God. Through the Scriptures God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world. This congregation accepts the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life. The Holy Scripture begin God’s own word, written by God’s servants and superintended by his Spirit, is to be believed, as God’s instruction, in all that it affirms; obeyed as God’s command, in all that it requires; embraced as God’s pledge, in all that it promises. a. We affirm that the Holy Scriptures contain exactly and entirely everything that God wants struggling humanity to know about Himself, life and salvation. We deny that any normative revelation has been given since the completion of the New Testament writing. We affirm that inspiration was the work in which God by His Spirit through human authors, without violence to their personalities or distinctive literary styles, gave us His word. The mode of divine inspiration remains largely a mystery to us. b. We affirm the unity and internal consistency of Scripture. We affirm the Church’s witness to Scripture through the ages and do not accept interpretations which are not in concert with the witness of the Spirit in the Church through the ages, summarized by the three most ancient creeds, The Apostles’ Creed, Athanasian Creed and the Nicene Creed. c. In affirming the authority and reliability of Scripture, we are consciously standing with Christ and His Apostles indeed with the mainstream of Church history from the time of the giving of the law of Moses until today. We affirm that God, who is himself truth and speaks truth only, has inspired Holy Scripture in order to reveal himself to lost humankind through Jesus Christ as Creator, Lord, Redeemer and Judge. Holy Scripture is God’s witness to Himself. d. We affirm that Scripture can never be broken by the wisdom of sinful human beings and will stand as God’s own Word until eternity. Any attempt by sinful human beings to subvert, weaken or relativize Scripture are to be condemned and will ultimately fail. This we affirm on the authority of Christ’s own word and person. This congregation accepts the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this congregation. This congregation accepts the Unaltered Augsburg Confession as a true witness to the Gospel, acknowledging as one with it in faith and doctrine all churches that likewise accept the teachings of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession. C2.06. This congregation accepts the other confessional writings in the Book of Concord, namely, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles and the Treatise, the Small Catechism, the Large Catechism, and the Formula of Concord, as further valid Interpretations of the faith of the Church. This congregation confesses the Gospel, recorded in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the Church for God’s mission in the world. All power in the Church belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ, its head. All actions of this congregation are to be carried out under his rule and authority.
We agree with these Doctrinal Statements: Apostles Creed Nicene Creed
