Our Mission
Rejoice! Renew! Reach Out!
From Pastor Chavaleh:
If you’ll indulge me for just a moment, I’d like to tell you my dream of life grafted together – what I dream a faith community that abides in Christ can be and what it can become. It’s maybe unbelievable. It’s certainly too huge. But it is a dream that makes my heart burst with longing.
I dream of a church where we are committed to each other. Where we get up on Sunday morning and come to be together even if we were out until the wee hours because all of this is more important than sleep. Where when one of us is past our ability to drive ourselves, someone will be there every week to bring us back into the community. Where when there is a death among us, love is shown to those who grieve with food and kindness and companionship that never has to be asked for. Where if there is a conflict or a disappointment, large or small, we do not abandon each other. We stay together, we make it work, we remember that each of us is a branch on the vine of Jesus Christ.
I dream of a church where the difficulties of life are shared in safety. Where we can bring our struggles out of darkness and secrecy and into light and not be judged; but instead be nurtured and cared for. Where we can confess our sin and be compassionate about the way sin affects others. Where support for one another isn’t simply a kind word but instead becomes a real safety net. Kids cared for by the community, a spare room freely shared, groceries bought, skills given – all with humility and vulnerability, knowing that all of our circumstances are changeable.
I dream of a church where forgiveness is the automatic knee-jerk reaction to a hurt or an offense. Where our expectations of each other don’t get in the way of our love, and disappointments are acknowledged as part of life together and opportunities for us to live like Jesus in our extravagant grace.
I dream of a church where when someone is missing, it is noticed, and grieved. Where no one is able to simply drift away. I even dream of a church where the most annoying, difficult, and demanding individual is softly chased down and pulled back into the loving fold. Because many days I am that person, and I know it.
I dream of a church where we actively pray for one another and actively pray for the world, with gratitude for each other and for the life that God has given us. I dream that in these prayers we can see the world and each other clearly, and ask how we can each act in love to be the body of Christ in this world and to each other.
I dream of a church where each of us loves Jesus so much that we recognize him when he comes to us as a stranger and we act accordingly. Where we learn daily what that love for Jesus requires of us and we live that love in ways that bring justice and peace to the world and break the chains of isolation, loneliness, and abandonment that many outside our walls experience as the defining factor of their lives.
I dream of a church that is day by day renewing the image of the church in the world. I dream that we will be known and recognized for our wild, bursting, out-of-the-box and over the top love, and I dream that as we love each other we will be strengthened and nurtured by the wild, bursting, out-of-the-box and over the top Gospel of life.

Core Lutheran Themes
What are the most distinctive themes of Lutheran theology?
We Are Saved By Grace
God approaches us
We cannot save ourselves
No “works based” salvation
No “sinner’s prayer” or right living
Not even faith as the ultimate work
Difference between Salvation and Discipleship
Confession → right orientation between us and God and others
Jesus works in our hearts
Live through lens of the gospel
Love Christ horizontally
What does love require of us?
Put ourselves in situations where we are receptive to the work of the Holy Spirit

(Rejoice, Renew, Reach Out!)
What is sin?
We have not loved you with our whole heart
Failure to trust God, worship of idols
We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves
Selfishness/inward turn
We are NOT “purity culture” Christians
Sacraments (Communion)
We believe that the mysterious act that is giving and receiving communion truly transforms us from the inside out through the presence and indwelling of Christ
