Our Mission

A family of faith in Jesus Christ
Bethpage Presbyterian Church has a long-established presence in the Kannapolis community, but we don't spend our time looking back. Instead, we seek to know God's will for our church's life in today's world; ways to do God's work among those who need us. We are a praying congregation, looking for ways to reach out to our community, both nearby and in a wider sense. We encourage our members to find God's call to service in their own world, through worship at church and home, missions at work, play and family, through learning and study; growing and being transformed by God's Spirit. We believe in the fellowship of all believers, in finding strength for our daily lives through contact and interaction in a fellowship of faith.

About Bethpage Presbyterian Kannapolis

Bethpage Presbyterian Church, worshiping God and serving Him since 1794. We are a family of Christians who live out our faith in gratitude and joy for all God has done for us through Jesus Christ. We are small, yet serious about faith and our call to share the Good News, "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him might not die but have eternal life!" We not only celebrate this grace in our worship on Sundays at 10:00 AM, but in our relationships with one another and with the community God has placed us in for over 221 years. We hope you will look around our website and check out our Facebook page. In our photos and postings, you will see all the ways in which the Holy Spirit is alive and living amongst this family of faith in Jesus Christ. If you don't have a family of faith of your own, please consider joining ours as we glorify God and enjoy him forever!

Serve CCM Mobile Food Pantry Community Garden "Suds of Love" Helping Hands Latin Mission Christ Savior Community Blood Drives Held quarterly each year in the Fellowship Hall, BPC-K hosts four drives to benefit the American Red Cross (February, May, August & November). Food Collections for CCM At least once a year, BPC-K collects food for Cooperative Christian Ministry. CCM serves the people of Concord, Kannapolis, and Cabarrus County. Each summer our congregation participates in the 1,000 Can Challenge to benefit CCM's Summer Food Drive by collecting canned food during June and July. Paper Products/Goods for CVAN Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network provides safety, shelter and support for battered women and their children in Cabarrus County, N.C. Our congregation supports CVAN with paper products/goods collections --- paper towels, tissues, diapers, cleaning products, etc. BPC-K supports three churchwide Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) These offerings, received each year, are a collective witness to Jesus Christ's love for the whole church. Over the years these offerings have provided ways for individuals and congregations to join together with each other and in partnership with other Christians in responding to a variety of concerns. A gift to One Great Hour of Sharing enables the church to share God's love with our neighbors-in-need around the world by providing relief to those affected by natural disasters (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance), provide food to the hungry (Presbyterian Hunger Program), and helping to empower the poor and oppressed (Self-Development of People.) BPC-K receives this gift during the Easter season. A gift to the Pentecost Offering helps the church encourage, develop, and support its young people, and also address the needs of at-risk children. 40% of this offering received at BPC-K is sent to Children's Hope Alliance. The remaining 60% is used to support ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency for ministries with youth and young adults and child advocacy/children at risk. This offering is received on Pentecost Sunday. A gift to the Christmas Joy Offering helps provide financial assistance to current and former church workers and their families, through The Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions, and also enables deserving students to attend Presbyterian-related racial ethnic colleges and schools, through Racial Ethnic Leadership Development. BPC-K receives this offering during the Christmas season.

BELIEFS

What are services like? Morning worship services follow what would be considered a traditional Presbyterian format. Every month which has 5 Sundays, however, on the 5th Sunday we hold morning worship in our Fellowship Hall, following a more "contemporary" format, using multimedia and having a more informal feel to the service. Our music varies, and we sing hymns from many musical traditions, including early American, international influence, Celtic influence, gospel, traditional historic composers, and straight out of the Presbyterian Hymnal. We have a children's sermon every morning, after which the younger members are invited to go to a children's church, led by volunteers from our congregation. The service follows the structure of traditional worship, with praise, prayer, singing, sermon, giving opportunities, and sending into the world. What is the community like? Our congregation is composed of all ages, different vocations and levels of faith. We are united in a common desire to answer God's call, growing in our discipleship as followers of Jesus Christ through prayer, study and a willingness to follow the Spirit's call to serve the world around us. There are many different gifts offered by the members of this congregation. We identify and strengthen these gifts as an offering, to be used for God's purpose and glory. What are some of the ways we serve those around us with Christ's love? Well of course through worship, Bible study, and fellowship, yet we also have an active life of mission which includes food-packing projects and mobile food pantry sponsorship, establishment of a community garden project, strong support of CVAN and CCM, and partnerships with a local elementary school and Latin Mission Christ Savior, a Latino worshiping community. Latin Mission Christ Savior uses our facilities for worship, study and service. Occasionally we are honored to worship together with them, particularly the community Thanksgiving Service and World Day of Prayer. In partnering with Fred L. Wilson Elementary School, the congregation has the opportunity to serve the families and children of our community. We collect school supplies, teacher supplies, and uniforms. A few years ago, we implemented a growing "Suds of Love" ministry, to help families wash clothing for their children at a local laundromat. It is in these moments of service and cooperation that we truly have the chance to experience the Church Universal. What if I'm not a Christian? Bethpage Presbyterian Church welcomes all who seek to know Jesus Christ as Lord. If your spiritual journey is not yet begun but you are interested in knowing more about Jesus Christ, then we offer a place you can feel safe and loved while you explore Christ's message of grace and salvation. We are a church family! We understand the challenges of searching, surrendering and serving God in Jesus Christ. Perhaps you need us. We know we need you! Your search reminds us that the Holy Spirit is still calling those who will believe . . . reminding us of the precious gift of eternal life, steadfast presence (Emmanual - God with us!) and transformation promised us by God through his Son. We invite you to come and worship with us! You may find what you are looking for as a part of this praying, caring, loving, very human family of God - the congregation of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis.
