About Hope Lutheran Church

We believe going to church is a laundry service for your soul. We are by nature sinful and unclean. We bring our burdens, our evil thoughts, words, and deeds. We leave rejuvenated, filled with the promise of salvation, washed clean by the Means of Grace -- God's Word and Sacraments. At Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, you will find: A worship service that tells you what Christ has done for you. - Bring your sins and cares with you to church - You will hear that Christ paid the price for them on the Cross - You will leave the service knowing his Grace Forgives and Liberates you from sin A Sermon that contains God's Word, both Law and Gospel - The Law will condemn your sins - The Gospel will comfort you with the assurance of God's Grace and forgiveness A church where both deeds and creeds are important - The creeds will affirm the doctrines of "The Faith Once Delivered to the Saints" - Our deeds are for our neighbors and, as the book of James teaches, show that faith is living What should you wear? You will feel at home whether you come in jeans, dress, or suit & tie. We encourage entire family attendance; areas are available for the care of infants and toddlers

Hope is in active partnership in member discipleship and Gospel outreach with Ebenezer Ethiopian Evangelical Church, LCMS, in Columbus, OH. We participate together in joint worship services; dinners; choir concerts; in a large VBS outreach at Ebenezer Church; and in youth group meetings, youth conference trips, and fundraising/service projects for youth events. Our pastors at Hope and Ebenezer are active in teaching and leading our youth and children in our youth and children's groups, and VBS. Our pastor leads and participates in college group outings and Bible study, and in our Anchored Day Camps. We also have a monthly quilting ministry which is open to all ages of any skill level, and have monthly lunches at local restaurants on the first Tuesday of the month for retirees and others who are available during the day. We have intergenerational Bible studies & activities throughout the year, and have a strong culture of intergenerational service within the church and in serving our community.
Some of our more popular community events are our yearly Glow-in-the-Dark Easter Egg Hunt; two weeks of Anchored Summer Day Camps; and a newer event, a sporting clay charity shoot at Cardinal Shooting Center, which supports Delaware County's new shelter for domestic violence victims, Turning Point. Anchored Summer Day Camps are for 9-12 year old. These are themed half-day camps for those who want to learn a new skill in sports, various arts, science, outdoor skills, and more. All of our services and events are open to the public, including all youth events, our Wednesday Soup Suppers & Services (6PM/7PM) during Lent and Advent, and our Easter Sunday Breakfast at 9:00 AM.

BELIEFS

As members of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church subscribes to The Three Ecumenical or Universal Creeds: The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Athanasian Creed. We also believe and confess with them the following: "The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod accepts the Scriptures as the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and the LCMS subscribes unconditionally to all the symbolical books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as a true and unadulterated statement and exposition of the Word of God. We accept the Lutheran Confessions as articulated in the Book of Concord of 1580 because they are drawn from the Word of God, and on that account we regard their doctrinal content as a true and binding exposition of Holy Scripture and as authoritative for all pastors, congregations and other rostered church workers of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod."
